Sim Eternal City is a special ultra-long-term project by BigC.Works that envisions an 18-minute city which organically integrates "death" and "memory" into urban design to enrich the lives of the living.
Countless future city projects around the world showcase impressive visuals and idealistic concepts. However, these beautiful images alone fail to adequately design or communicate how human life will change in these cities and what specific elements we should enjoy as we inhabit them.
As a result, many people still perceive the cities of the future as distant possibilities.
But the future doesn't suddenly fall from the sky one day. It quietly grows within present moments that we either overlook or fail to properly acknowledge. Then one day, it suddenly appears before our eyes as an enormous reality. It's not 'the future,' but rather an evolved present already within our cities.
This is why BigC.Works is officially launching the Sim Eternal City project. This is not merely a concept proposal, but a long-term, collaboration-centered experiment for concrete and verifiable implementation of future cities.
Not a City for the Dead, But a City Designed for 'Legacy'
In conventional urban planning, 'death' has been pushed to the periphery, addressed only through fragmented infrastructure like cemeteries or funeral facilities.
But Sim Eternal City asserts: Memory, commemoration, and emotional legacy are essential components that must never be omitted from urban design.
Just as we design parks and road networks, we must also design infrastructure for memory within our cities. XR (Extended Reality) based digital memorial spaces, Second Funerals, legacy archives, and open museums are not merely facilities that address death. They are healing architectures that preserve our mental health, community identity, and emotional continuity across generations.
What Sim Eternal City Actually Implements
This project goes beyond white papers or concept reports to present a city vision that designs, proves, and executes.
To concretize and exhibit core domains of future cities including governance, education, mobility, healthcare, and infrastructure.
To discover and connect technologies, products, solutions, and businesses necessary for implementing future cities around the world.
To collaborate with city governments, institutions, and leadership to conduct proof of concept (PoC) in actual cities.
To build new city models where 'life, death, and memory' coexist by collaborating with designers, technologists, storytellers, and architects.
This is not just about creating an innovative city. It's a journey toward creating a truly complete city.
Like masterpiece music that resonates despite being invisible and inaudible, the memories and legacies left by death make cities more human, more moving, and more communal.
Inviting You to Design Cities Together
Sim Eternal City is not a product. It is an invitation.
We seek architects and activists, designers and teachers, artists and administrators— people who want to make cities not just efficient but meaningful.
We want to work with those who wish to transform cities into 'spaces of memory,' into resonant cities where life and death coexist.
Today, this manifesto is the first step in inviting you. The city we will create together is— A city that remembers. A city where senses are alive. A city that is truly alive.
Sim Eternal City. The City That Remembers.
